Big Local Funding Available
The Big Lottery Fund in England is investing up to £200 million in 100 - 150 urban and rural neighbourhoods that have been overlooked for funding. The money is being invested as a charitable endowment with at least £1m allocated to each community to be spent over 10 years. An independent organisation called Local Trust has been set up to help local areas decide how to spent their allocations. In addition to each area's £1m, they will all receive additional support, such as 'start-up funding', assistance from Big Local representatives, resident travel and childcare expenses, a networking and learning programme, support for setting up self-evaluation systems, and support to local community entrepreneurs. Money can be spent on anything that will improve the local community; areas will agree a shared vision, create a Big Local plan, and then invest the money through grants, social investments and procuring services to realise the local area's vision according to its plan.
